It's not the feed itself that's the problem, but the more you feed a goldfish the more waste it produces and that waste has ammonia in it and can be harmful, especially in smaller systems. 

Goldfish should be fed small amounts of food 1-2 times a day. A good rule of thumb is to feed them an amount of food that they can consume within 2-3 minutes. If you just feed once a day you might feed a little more and if you feed twice a day you might feed a little less. This helps prevent overeating and keeps the water in the tank clean. 

Goldfish that are new to a system can also take some time to learn how to come up and feed. It's important to give them time to learn. Be consistent in the place and time you feed so they can learn the routine. Goldfish are very food motivated and typically catch on quickly! 

What size tank is recommended for goldfish?

A general rule is to provide 20 gallons of water for the first goldfish and an additional 10 gallons for each additional goldfish. This ensures that they have enough space to swim and that the water quality remains stable.

Goldfish do not have eyelids, so it may seem like they never sleep. However, they do have periods of rest where they become less active. Goldfish are diurnal, meaning they are most active during the day and rest at night. It is important to provide a quiet and dimly lit environment for your goldfish to rest peacefully.
