Tips for Shipping Fish in Hot Weather!

Our best piece of advice is to check the weather and ship when it is cooler. If you have a cooler period coming in the next few weeks you can place your order at www.toledogoldfish.com and then message us to adjust the ship date to match the weather. Another great tip is to ship earlier in the week. Ordering to have your fish shipped on Monday for Tuesday arrival is much better than Thursday for Friday. At the end of the week, it is harder to solve delivery issues before the weekend.
Another great tip is to ship to a FEDEX ship center and have them held for pickup. This is the best way to make sure the fish don't sit on a hot truck or in the sun on your porch. Typically they arrive at the station and are ready to pickup at 9 am for most stations (always check your local station hours.) It is important to give us a heads up if you choose this option so we can double check we pick the right service. Please note that it is not all Fedex stores, it does have to be specifically a Fedex ship center.
It is super important to make sure to keep your shipment out of direct sun. So on the day your fish are scheduled to arrive, make sure to check tracking often and get them inside out of the sun as soon as possible. The best option is to acclimate and transition them into fresh water. Remember they have already been traveling for 24 hours so getting them into fresh water and oxygen is best! Please make sure to acclimate quickly, float the unopened bag for only 15-20 minutes out of direct sun and then add some pond water and then release your fish.
