They have large deep rounded bodied fish with spotted coloring, 7-8 dorsal spines and an upturned snout that make them efficient predator fish. They eat insects larvae, fathead minnows or any other small water bugs. Crappie do well in freshwater lakes and ponds with clear water  vegetation and submerged structures such as rocks, logs, or aquatic plants. These provide shelter and feeding areas for young fish. They are known to easily adapt to a variety of diverse habitats.
